Guide Dogs - Associations, Organizations and Schools
Guide Dog Associations:
- The International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) was formed in 1989, following meetings over several years of Guide Dog schools around the World. The history of the organisation is covered under their section entitled "Facts and Figures".
The IGDF now comprises 84 members. These schools whose purpose is to serve the visually impaired and blind people from around the world by training and providing Guide Dogs. It is a growing and thriving membership organisation with a small executive office based in Reading, UK. Details about membership are covered under their section entitled "Membership Information".
- Guide Dog Users of Canada (GDUC) is a national non profit organization that provides support and information for guide-dog users in Canada and also promotes the equality rights of blind or sight-impaired people.
- Guide Dog Users Incorporated (GDUI), an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind, is the largest guide dog consumer driven group in the world.
- International Association of Assistance Dog Partners - A non-profit, cross-disability organization representing people partnered with guide, hearing and service dogs.
- The National Association of Guide Dog Users (NAGDU), a division of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB).
- PAWS International is a registered charitable society with the aim to provide resources to enhance the lives of persons with disabilities and facilitate community awareness. The main goals of PAWS are to facilitate a biennial conference for people who are involved with guide and assistance dogs. They also provide education and awareness to members of the public on appropriate ways to assist people with disabilities, especially those who use a working dog.
